NSW: Snowy Mountains resorts evacuated as fires rage

SYDNEY, Jan 18 AAP - Firefighters on Sydney's northern beaches and in the Snowy Mountainsfear a south-westerly front expected tonight could fan bushfires already sweeping acrossthe state's south.

Hundreds of people - including foreign tourists - have been evacuated from the SnowyMountains resort towns of Thredbo, Guthega and Jindabyne.

And earlier this evening fires besieging the ACT broke back into NSW, cutting the MonaroHighway between Canberra and Cooma as well as threatening the Michelago and Williamsdaleareas.
