Profile America - Saturday, July 29. Just as rodeos show off theskills used daily by cowboys, lumberjacks also have competitionsshowcasing their logging skills. Two of them are underway today. The Lumberjack World Championships are on this weekend in Hayward,Wis. Spectators will watch log rolling, tree climbing, saw cuttingand axe chopping. In Rangeley, Maine, the Logging Museum FestivalDays will have many of the same competitions, plus the Miss Woodchipcontest, a parade and the logger's hall of fame. Each year, the U.S.produces more than 14 billion cubic feet of lumber, plywood, veneerand pulp products. Making these wood and paper products provide jobsfor close to 1 million people.
