Because it's the most unhealthy fat there is, and no one's disputing it.
Trans fatty acids raise levels of "bad" cholesterol and lower the levels of "good" cholesterol in our blood, contributing to increased risk of heart disease. A recent study by the Harvard School of Public Health provided the strongest association so far between trans fat and heart disease.
It found that women in the US with the highest levels of trans fat in their blood had three times the risk of chronic heart disease than those with the lowest levels.
